The Bloomie's Excursion
Here are the #facts. Shelia and I are besties.
We shop like it’s a sport.
and BT DUBS, (“It’s Bloomingdale’s, not Bloomingdales. Apostrophes matter.” – Sheila, already exhausting) but because we are in the know, it’s really Bloomie’s…
We did NOT need earrings.
We have earrings.
We have earrings for moods we haven’t even experienced yet.
But did that stop us?
Absolutely not.
We walked into the jewelry section at Bloomie’s like two emotionally stable women…
…and immediately blacked out over sparkles.
If you’ve never browsed 4,000+ pairs of earrings, I recommend it as a personality test.
The Bling Situation (A Breakdown)
Sheila:
“Let’s look for something classic. Timeless. Investment pieces.”
Me:
“Ooooo shiny.”
Sheila tried on delicate diamond studs.
Very understated. Very “I have my life together.” She’s such an adult. (eye roll)
I tried on chandelier earrings that could double as wind chimes.
At one point, I turned my head and took out a small display.
Sheila: “Oooo, fun! Lemme try.”
Important Observations from Our Field Research
- Hoops make you feel like you’ve made good decisions in life
- Studs make you feel like you tell people you make good decisions
- Statement earrings say: “I am not here to be ignored”
- Price tags? Not relevant to our emotional journey
Also, quick note: there are a lot of options. Like…

…but emotionally, we narrowed it down to:
“Yes” and “Also yes.”
Ok, Sheila...
At some point, Sheila looked at me and said:
“We should be practical.”
And that’s when I knew…
we had been in the store too long.
Because right after that, she picked up a pair of gold hoops and whispered,
“These feel like a tax write-off.”
We are not accountants.
What we actually bought.
Nothing.
Also… If You Want Something Actually Unique
Unlike mass-produced sparkle situations (no offense, Bloomingdale’s, we still love you), you could also check out the whimsical, personality-filled pieces over at booniesbesties. And you can see the gorgeous earrings that we tried on.
Boonie’s Besties art makes ridiculously good gifts for:
- your best friend
- your girlfriends
- co-workers
- your mom
- yourself after a minor emotional spiral
Think: less “I saw this everywhere,” more “WHERE did you get that??”
Sheila says we’re done shopping for a while.
She says that all the time. I betcha she calls me tomorrow and wants to go to Anthropologie.
xo,
Gigi
